Amazon RDS cost saving tips

Optimize your Amazon RDS costs with these tips

Rightsize Instances

Make sure your instances are rightsized to your workload. Monitor CPU usage of your database instances for a longer period. If the weekly average CPU usage is below 40% you can safely half the instance size.

Reserved DB Instances

You can purchase reserved database instances from AWS. This can save you up to 70% compared to on demand costs. Depending on the length of the contract and commitment. Make sure to also factor in database backup costs.

Migrate To Aurora

Amazon Aurora offers a better price performance ratio and is compatible with MySQL & Postgres. It also includes useful features like Global Databases and serverless options. If you have variable traffic patterns serverless might be more cost effective.
